Course Description

Build confidence with one of the most versatile and widely used welding processes in industry. This three-day hands-on micro-credential introduces the fundamentals of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (Stick Welding), including equipment setup, safe operation, electrode selection, and welding techniques.

Participants will gain practical experience using E6010, E7018, and E7024 electrodes while developing fillet welds on mild steel plates. The course also explores electrode applications, weld quality considerations, common discontinuities, and troubleshooting techniques to help build confidence and competence in the shop.

Ideal for: Aspiring welders, trades workers, agriculture and maintenance personnel, and anyone looking to develop foundational stick welding skills.

Notes

Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Students must have their own CSA-approved footwear, 100% cotton long-sleeve shirt and jeans, or coveralls (preferred), and leather welding gloves. A welding helmet and basic hand tools will be supplied. A notebook and pencil are recommended for recording techniques, settings, and observations.

Prerequisites

Fundamentals of Welding Micro-Credential or a review of previous welding training. Students with previous welding training or industry experience may be eligible for direct entry following an instructor assessment.
